He is internationally acclaimed for his monumental feats in the medical field and has been duly recognized and honored with prestigious awards including Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dr. B.C. Roy National Award and many others.
He is a fellow of American College of Cardiology, Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, USA Royal College of Physicians (Canada) to name a few and is also a Member of Central Council of Health & Family Welfare, Member of Expert Committee for medical devices and many other important govt. committees and councils.
Adversities never stopped great personalities from achieving the pinnacle of success.
From a remote village in Punjab to heading a multihospital group, he never let the adversities come in his way of achieving his dreams.
Burning with the desire to serve humanity, he studied under the street lights never complaining about the lack of resources, even contributed his scholarship to aide his family in severe financial crisis. He topped his MBBS and won a scholarship to study in the USA. After spending nearly 13 years in the USA working in various capacities he returned to India.

An ardent desire to serve the people of his country motivated him to leave a flourishing medical career in the USA and he moved back to serve his country. Sensing the need to provide world-class effective treatments at an affordable cost he pioneered innovative interventional techniques and devices which were deployed the first time in the medical history of the country.
He founded the Metro Group of Hospitals in 1997 with the vision to provide comprehensive medical care at an affordable cost. He has been tirelessly working towards realizing this vision and has established 12 hospitals across the country.
Milestones in the Journey that transformed thousands of lives
• Performed the first case of Heart Hole (ASD) Closure Sept. 1992
• Performed the first case of Aortic Valve Replacement with Core Valve, without surgery on July 12, 2004.
• Performed the 1st case in high-risk Aortic Valvuloplasty in July, 1990 for the 1st time in the Medical Literature.
• Introduced INOUE Balloon, the most popular balloon for opening tight valve, for the 1st time in the country.
• Developed a new concept of "METRO CORONARY SCREENING" for the patients who have been having a phobia of conventional coronary angiography.
• Introduced more than 20 interventional procedures for the first time in the country such as Coronary Atherectomy, Slow Rotational Angioplasty, Rotablator, etc.
• Performing the largest no of angioplasties/stenting as a single operator in the world – as per HEAL Survey – the leading health magazine.
